Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849) was a Japanese Ukiyo-e woodblock printmaker, painter, and drawing master during the Edo period. He is best known for his landscape paintings and his iconic woodblock print series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, with the most famous piece being The Great Wave off Kanagawa. Hokusai is one of the most influential and celebrated artists in Japanese history, and his work has had a lasting impact on both Eastern and Western art.
