Edgar Degas (1834–1917) was a French artist famous for his exceptional skill in drawing and painting, particularly in the genres of ballet dancers, horse racing, and nudes. He is often associated with the Impressionist movement, though he preferred to be called a Realist and considered himself more of a traditionalist. Despite being recognized for his association with the Impressionists, his style remained distinctly unique, and his mastery of movement and gesture set him apart.
